Shree Shankar Narayan Education Trust’s Shankar Narayan College of Arts and Commerce , Bhayandar (E) is one of the most significant institutions imparting higher education in the vicinities of Mira-Bhayandar area. The college came into existence in 1994, the inception year, for fulfilling the long desired need of higher education of the region, as the region is semi-urban including a lot of low income groups and educationally deprived classes like SC, ST, NT and etc. Prior to the inception, the students of area had to travel to Mumbai for higher education, which was costly and Herculean task. Now the college facilitates education to the said groups in minimum cost with quality par excellence.
It seems almost incredible the number of students in the college is 6500 because when the college established, it had only 47 students and a small rented structure. This underlines the separate need of the region and subsequent significant contribution of the college towards society.
With the basket full of obstacles in the pocket, the college along with the well-wishers stood firmly on the conviction to serve society and as a result, now a multi-facility mega structure with computer laboratories, Gymnasium, a huge library and a big playground is standing tall as an emblem of thorough efforts. Shankar Narayan College is affiliated permanently to the University of Mumbai, Mumbai. The permanent affiliation is the sign of college’s rich growth. To add feather to the cap, University Grants Commissions, New Delhi granted much-deserved recognition under section 2(f) and 12(b). The National accreditation and Assessment commission, Bangalore (NAAC), a premier education body formed by the government, awarded ‘B’ grade to the college as a token of appreciation and recognition.
 Along with BMC (Bachelor in Management Studies) B.Sc.I.T. (Bachelor in Science – Information Technology), BBI (Bachelor in Banking and Insurance), BCS (Bachelor in Computer Science), the college runs B.A. and B.Com. degree courses. The post graduation in Information Technology (M. Sc. I.T.) is an additional educational score. Identifying the need of the time, Rohidas Patil Institute of Management studies (MMS – Master in Management Studies) and Pravin Patil Polytechnic were started to accommodate students interested in the field of Management and Technology respectively.
The college receives consistent grant from UGC New Delhi under different schemes. Under the assistance of UGC, the college has started Gandhian Studies and Research Centre and Remedial Coaching for the educationally backward students. Also the competitive Examination guidance cell functions under the name of entry Level Coaching. This year college started foundation course in human Rights and duties, which is also stared by UGC.
Within a short span of 16 years, the college has become an instrument in providing access to higher education and thereby transforming the socio-educational fabric of the region. The comprehensive and value based education has been the benchmark achieved by the entire stakeholders of the college.
